Someone said that “nothing has meaning until we give meaning.”  People are looking for meaning:  meaning in marriage, meaning in relationships, and meaning in what we do, believe and what we stand for.  Most of us look for meaning in church:  meaning in the scriptures, song, and prayers.  As a congregation, we have enjoyed worship.  We believe strongly in prayer, and we want to tell others about the wonderful life that we have in Christ.   We believe in healthy relationships, in the empowerment of our youth, and in the wisdom of our elderly.   We honor all of this because it means something to us.   That is why we work hard, pray hard, and do the business of God’s kingdom with all our hearts, minds and souls.   Our congregation means something to all of us.  To some of you it means connection; you came here to Larkspur from Campbell Avenue.  To some of you it means family; you grew  up in this church, and to some of you this is where you feel peace.  This may be where you felt God’s presence for the very first time, and you feel that you belong, you feel welcome.   This church means something to you:  it means a place you can call home.    People are looking for meaning in their lives, and they come to Larkspur looking to see if they can find it here in our midst.   As we look into to the life of our congregation, do we find meaning?    Do others find meaning?   Do visitors find meaning?  Ask yourselves, “What does Larkspur mean to me?”   These are hard questions.  When thing mean something to us, we give them value, we protect, secure and give special care.  We as congregation have shown that we care about this place of worship.   You have done a great work with the New Beginnings.  All of you are exited about the renovation of our property.  You have supported the youth; you have given to missions, and we are getting involved in the neighborhood.  We are taking care of others; this congregation means something to us!  We are telling others about God, and we are praying and reading the scriptures.  There is meaning in this church!   We have seen people baptized, people being transformed, people are finding meaning in this congregation!

The secrets of a community that has meaning:

1.                  Responsibly community

2.                  Community which embrace challenge

3.                  Community that does not take anything personally

4.                  Community that dreams big

5.                  Community always in action, moving and doing

6.                  Community that walks the extra mile

We, Larkspur Christian Church, have given meaning to our community of faith.  We are relevant to our community because being here in this place means something to us. It means the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.

Your Pastor,
